Gulf Coast Foundation Awards MEANS Database a Community Grant

Sarasota, FL (1, Feb 2022): MEANS Database is pleased to announce that Gulf Coast Community Foundation has awarded a $10,000 Community Grant designated for capacity building to serve Sarasota County to reduce food waste.

With this grant, MEANS Database will be able to expand their network within Sarasota County. The organization’s goals for this program are to increase outreach in the county in order to recruit new users into the database, and to increase the number of recovered food donations by incorporating transportation in the Sarasota County area. Having transportation available for food donations will create a reliable and efficient network for the Sarasota community, encouraging food donation and limiting food waste.

“Connecting surplus food, in our fields and on shelves, to individuals in need is a win-win for our community. We are grateful to MEANS Database for working with local agencies and new partners to quickly connect fresh food to those who can distribute it, reducing hunger and food waste in our region,” said Gulf Coast Community Foundation’s Director of Community Leadership Jennifer Johnston.

“We are so appreciative of this opportunity with Gulf Coast Community Foundation to increase our food recovery work in Sarasota. So far, we have moved over 65,000 pounds of food across Florida and cannot wait to see how we can assist food recovery efforts in the Sarasota community” said Allie Wilson, Project Manager and Senior Staff at MEANS Database

MEANS Database is excited about this new opportunity and this next chapter in food recovery.
